Work on the publication of the collection of documents Hrvatska u diplomatskim izvješćima Sjedinjenih Američkih Država, 1929 – 1934. (Croatia in the Diplomatic Reports of the United States of America, 1929 – 1934)

The Collection of Documents Croatia in the Diplomatic Reports of the United States of America, 1929 – 1934 is a continuation of the eponymous, already published collection of American diplomatic documents from 1918 to 1929 (published documents can be viewed HERE). The second volume of American diplomatic documents on Croatia during the dictatorship of King Aleksandar Karađorđević will include 150 documents/reports of American diplomats in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. These documents provide a detailed insight into the internal and foreign policy of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia through the eyes of American diplomats. Key topics include descriptions of the dictatorial regime and state system, analyses of the introduction of the authoritarian regime, the deepening of the Croatian question, political assassinations, assassinations and trials, reports on police repression and brutality, the activities of the Ustasha – Croatian revolutionary organization, religious issues, resistance of the political opposition, and foreign policy. These sources represent invaluable material for understanding the dynamics of the Yugoslav state in this turbulent period, highlighting the deep gap between the proclaimed “national unity” and the reality of the regime’s political violence.
